Martha Jackson Jarvis (b. 1952) grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and currently lives and works in Washington, D.C. She is known for her mixed-media installations that explore aspects of African, African American, and Native American spirituality, ecological concerns, and the role of women in preserving indigenous cultures. Her multi-media practice consists of mosaic and paint along with earthen, sculptural materials such as stone, copper, and sand.
