Long Lake Estates

Dan Miller, born in Castro Valley, CA, in 1961, is autistic. He has been attending the Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, California, for over fifteen years, giving entirely unfettered reign to his inventive imagination. He is obsessed with household objects such as light bulbs and electric sockets, the names of towns and cities, people, numbers, and foodstuffs. He repeats images and words on paper in paint, pen, pencil, and felt tip pen.  Sometimes the words are visible in his pieces, other times, they are transformed.

The Painted Words Of An Autistic Art Star

Dan Miller is one of the most recognized artists of Oakland's Creative Growth Art Center, the world's first non-profit art center dedicated to serving adults with developmental disabilities. Using ink and paper, Miller interprets every day subjects into intense, multi-layered ink masses that reflect the artist's obsession with light bulbs, food, electrical outlets and even people's names.
